Meeting the challenge of a sustainable future
Dulux is continually developing new ways to reduce the environmental impact of its products and activities, with environmental sustainability forming a core element of Dulux's business.
Dulux is committed to the ongoing research and development of innovative products that reduce the environmental impact of our products, without affecting their outstanding performance. This is evident in our proactive shift from solvent-based products to water-based alternatives, and the introduction of Australia's first low VOC paint in the early 1990's.
From initiating sustainable business partnerships, through to products and even the actual clean-up stage, we are continually developing new ways to reduce the environmental impact of our products, without affecting their outstanding performance and the quality results that Australia's professional and DIY painters have come to expect from Dulux.
Health & safety practices
"No injuries to anyone, ever." is our safety vision statement and we are committed to providing safe workplaces. From the time you enter any site of the Dulux network, from our Dulux Trade Centres to factory sites, you are aware of the company concern with safety and the importance to uphold our safety standards.
Dulux Australia's development of environmental responsible water-based paints as a replacement for many solvent-based paints has been under way since the 1960's.
Dulux Australia is now the largest manufacturer of water-based paints in Australia and New Zealand. The benefit to the environment is obvious. When solvent-based paint dries, solvent evaporates into the atmosphere. Water-based paint emits mainly water vapour into the air.
Low VOC Paints
Dulux has been at the forefront in introducing low VOC paints. Low VOC paints are lower in Volatile Organic Compounds thereby creating less emissions and less odour.
Dulux has introduced low VOC products such as Dulux Professional® Enviro2®, Wash&Wear® and the tinter system used to deliver the Dulux colour offer. The company is committed to further develop its low VOC ranges.
When selecting premium quality paints with superior washability, easy application, lower VOC's and lower paint odours - the choice is easy. Dulux Prepcoat ASU, Wash&Wear®, Ceiling White and Aquanamel® provide a complete interior painting solution.
Correct waste disposal is an essential and important part of safe and sustainable working practice. Every endeavour is made to minimise the quality and quantity of waste generation, and hence reduce the associated problem of waste disposal.
The Dulux EnviroWash® System
The first of its kind in the Australian market, the Dulux EnviroWash® System is an innovative, treatment system that turns paint wash-out into treated water and solid waste. It provides painters with an environmentally responsible alternative to traditional methods of washing out painting tools, such as brushes and rollers.
The EnviroWash® System is efficient, fast and can separate paint solids from 160 litres of water in as little as 2 hours. The largest system can handle up to 800 litres of paint washings and the EnviroWash® System can process every type of acrylic paint in Australia.
Increased community expectations of environmentally responsible clean up processes make the system a must-have for the professional painter.
Dulux Envirosolutions® Waste Paint Hardener
Dulux Envirosolutions® Waste Paint Hardener converts unwanted paint into solid waste which can then be safely disposed. It is suitable for use in all water-based paints and water-based timber coatings.
Sustainable practices are at the heart of our business. Dulux are proud to offer a Paint Take-Back Service as part of our commitment to the environment. Simply bring in your left over paint and paint packaging to any one of the 24 Dulux Trade Centres and we will recycle, reuse or dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner.
Water based paints may be donated to community groups for graffiti abatement or used for other end use applications. Accepted solvent based paints are sent for solvent recovery and/or responsible disposal and packaging is recycled. It is the responsible way for households and professional painters to dispose of left-over paint and packaging.
- Responsibly dispose of left-over paint.
- Declutter your garage, shed or under the house of old paint containers.
- Reduce waste going to landfill.
- Avoid landfill fees that may apply to waste paint.
