Located in the Kahurangi National Park in the Nelson/Tasman region. The six-bunk John Reid Hut was built by the New Zealand Forest Service in 1963 and named after the pioneering helicopter pilot, John Reid who spent much time flying in the backcountry and flew in the kitset for the original hut. It is a 1200m undulating climb from the Wangapeka River with views of Mt Owen just above the bush line. The interior and exterior was painted in March 2018 by The Nelson Tramping Club members.
