Select your preferred finish
Dulux Aquanamel® is available in gloss, semi-gloss and low sheen finishes.
Roller tray
Flat paddle stirrer
Paint pot
Paper
Medium grit sandpaper
Damp cloth
We recommend a light sand between the prep coat and the first coat once dry, and again between the top coats to provide the best finish.
To start, find your inspiration and select a colour from the Dulux colour range – and don’t be afraid to go bold. Choose a sheen level that suits your home. Semi gloss is perfect to pair with low sheen walls, or you may opt for a distinctive gloss or low gloss finish.
Lay down a drop sheet. Make sure your front door is clean, then sand it smooth using medium-grit sandpaper. Wipe down the surface with a damp cloth to remove any dust. Using high-quality painters tape, mask off the edges of the door and cover any glass with paper.
Now apply the prep coat. Dulux 1Step® Prep is recommended for a long-lasting and professional finish. Apply to the smaller sections of the door first, working your way out to the longest vertical panels. Always work from the corners out to avoid build-up.
Leave the prep coat to dry for two hours, then lightly sand back the surface. For the top coat, we recommend Dulux Aquanamel®, a durable, non-yellowing, water-based enamel paint that is low odour, fast drying and easily washes up in water.
After stirring the paint, start filling in the front panels using a paintbrush. Then, fill in the vertical sections between the panels followed by the horizontal sections at the top, middle and bottom. And finally, the outside vertical panels. For larger surface areas, consider using a roller.
Leave the door to dry for at least two hours before applying a second coat, repeating the process. Next, clean up the area using responsible paint disposal methods and pack away your supplies.
