Duncan Cotterill Offices - Christchurch
Sustainable Interior Category Finalist
Duncan Cotterill is one of the nation's oldest and largest law
firms. At its Christchurch head office, Duncan Cotterill occupies
three floors of the Clarendon Tower, enjoying iconic views of the
Port Hills, Hagley Park, and Neil Dawson's nearby 'Chalice' in
Cathedral Square.
Project Description:
Warren & Mahoney's brief was to create a professional,
contemporary, and welcoming space for the firm to meet and
entertain its clients. The space also needed to operate
efficiently, with the reception area and meeting rooms providing
flexibility for use as both function (formal and informal) and
seminar spaces.
Creating a space that was friendly, that exuded confidence and
integrity, and was classic while at the same time contemporary,
were other key objectives with the design.
Walnut wall panels, Oak flooring and Calcutta marble - which
envelop the visitor on entry - have been used to convey integrity,
warmth and quality. A 'Paul Smith' runway of stripped goat's hair
carpet orientates the visitor while creating a strong perspective
to natural light and views over the city, and communicates a
sartorial sense of humour not often associated with lawyers'
offices.
New Zealand design is celebrated with David Moreland 'Frame'
chairs, Candywhistle 'Pedro' stools, a Simon James 'Ash' leaner and
Dulux Colours of New Zealand paint used throughout the office.
Duncan Cotterill is delighted with its new workplace, and the
way in which the new environment is engaging both clients and staff
with the business.
